“Bombardier Wins £1 billion Crossrail Contract.
Marketing Derby Bondholder Bombardier Transportation has been named as the winner of a £1billion contract for the Crossrail project in London.
Bombardier, which employs 1,500 staff at its base in Derby, will build 65 Aventra trains capable of carrying up to 1,500 passengers each featuring air conditioning, inter-connecting walk-through carriages and real-time travel information.
Set to stretch from east to west across the capital, the Crossrail project will provide more frequent and faster journey times – increasing London’s rail capacity by 10%.
Francis Paonessa, Managing Director of Bombardier Transportation said, ”Today’s decision is a credit to the efforts of our entire workforce in the UK, including our 1,600 strong Derby-based design, engineering and manufacturing team who form a global centre of excellence for the rail industry”.
