Creating the next generation of Engineers..........
Addressing the Engineering Skills Gap
As employers are being increasingly challenged to ‘step up’ to prevent a new wave of engineering skills shortages, the University of Derby is delighted to announce an exciting new initiative for 2014.
The University been awarded almost £600,000 by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to help plug a UK skills gap in vital engineering skills through ‘Postgraduate Support Scheme’ (PSS) funding.
This is a unique opportunity for the university and employers to work together to develop workforce engineering skills through postgraduate study. The programme is tailored to employer needs, solving technical problems important to the business, focusing on specific projects and commissioning bespoke research.
The project offers two programmes to suit different situations:
- MSC Innovative Engineering Solutions
- MSc Professional Engineering (Online)
“The UK will need around 87,000 graduate level engineers per year between 2012 and 2022: 2013 was 36,000 short of this.”
